Our Story

After being founded in 1946 in a courtyard premises in Gårda, with 50 years on Luntantugatan and Kungsgatan, and now since 2017 in the fantastic turn-of-the-century villa at Västergatan 1, Gårda Textil is a constant in the Swedish fabric industry. 

A family business now in its fourth generation, our focus has consistently remained the same – quality. Natural fibres, and above all silk, have always been our passion, and somehow our collection of fabrics always continues to grow.

In 1946, the range was largely based on purchases of remnant fabrics and roll ends from factories in Borås. Today, reality is in many ways different, but as a homage to times past we have recently begun a renewed investment in Deadstock. These fabrics are purchased primarily from Italy and are, like those from 1946, goods left over from production that we have then had the opportunity to buy, to such an extent that they have been given an entire department of their own on our second floor.

Perhaps this is as good a sign as any that times are changing, but Gårda Textil remains.
